Ntombela's #FSSopa takes centre stage─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:32 Tue, 02 Mar 2021
The Free State Premier, Sisi Ntombela, is expected to lay out the COVID-19 vaccine plans during her State of the Province Address (SOPA) on Tuesday in the Provincial Legislature in Bloemfontein.
The province is part of those provinces that have already received the Johnson & Johnson vaccines and started the process of vaccinating front line workers.
So far about 5 224 healthcare workers, including nurses and doctors, have been vaccinated in the province. Meanwhile, Ntombela is also expected to reveal her plans to recover the ailing economy of the province after COVID-19's devastation on the country's economy. Ntombela will also be under pressure to reveal details of how her provincial government will curb the high and rising unemployment and the levels of poverty in the province, particularly amongst young people.
Amongst other issues which premier Ntombela is set to address, is the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV) against women and children. Recently, the reports of GBV in the province made headlines with women being killed by their loved ones. The issue of safety in schools across the province is also expected to feature in her address today.
