Premier Zamani Saul says this follows after talks with the Justice Minister Ronald Lamola and SIU Head Andy Mothibi.

The province was the only one in the country with no offices for the agency, which mostly investigates serious malpractice and maladministration in the administration of the state, including departments and municipalities.

The offices will be opened on April 1 after they were secured. The recruitment of staff is also set to get underway.

Saul says the SIU has already started to request files to be handed over for scrutiny.

Saul adds that this will tremendously strengthen the fight against corruption in the province. Recently the head of the SIU confirmed that only a single case of corruption over the procurement of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the Northern Cape was being investigated.

Meanwhile, Premier Saul recently distanced himself from reports that suggest he influenced the awarding of COVID-19 PPE tenders in his province.
