A 31-year-old woman and her two sons, aged three and eight, died in a shack fire in Snake Park informal settlement in Kimberley in the Northern Cape.

According to police spokesperson, Bashoabile Kale, a 13-year-old girl made her way from the nearby shop on Friday evening when she noticed that the shack was on fire.

Kale adds that she then raced to the house where she managed to rescue a 10-year-old boy by pulling him through the window of the burning shack.

Kale says that the 10-year-old boy was taken to the Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital for treatment.

He adds that the woman had allegedly been sleeping when the shack caught fire.

The cause of the fire at this stage is unknown. Kale says the 10-year-old was subsequently released from the hospital on Saturday morning as he sustained minor burning wounds.

Investigations are continuing.

Anyone with information as to who and what caused the fire is requested to contact Detective Sergeant Donaray Palm at Kagisho Detectives on 0609723262.
