Suspected murderer of Khune’s sister released | News Article

The case against a 17-year-old teenage boy, alleged to have murdered the Kaizer Chiefs’ goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune’s sister in Ventersdorp near Tshing in the North West, has been removed from the Court Roll due to insufficient evidence.

This means that the 17-year-old teenage boy was released from police custody and did not appear in court as scheduled for Monday, pending further police investigations.

He was arrested by the police in that area following the murder of the 27-year-old Mapula Khune, whose severely burnt body was discovered by paramedics. Police spokesperson, Adéle Myburgh, previously said the boy was apprehended after the police in that area initially investigated an inquest and obtained more information.

Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority's regional spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, says following a thorough study of the docket and consultation with the police, the docket was returned to the police.

She previously said, since this past Friday 5 March, additional cases of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) were reported as community street patrollers and family members allegedly assaulted their alleged perpetrators for the murder of Mapula. Mapula’s body was discovered on top of her bed in a backroom in Extension 2 in that area.
