Calls mount for accountability in NW─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 06:20 Tue, 09 Mar 2021
The Ad Hoc Committee on the Section 100 intervention in the North West is calling for investigations to be fast-tracked and for those implicated in fraud and corruption cases to be brought to book.
This, after a briefing by the Hawks and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) on Monday.
The Committee, led by China Dodovu, who has also previously served as an MPL in the North West Legislature, as well as the MEC for Cooperative Governance, has raised concerns over the lack of financial controls and lack of consequence management in the province, stating that this has left North West residents poorer.
Addressing a virtual sitting, Dodovu highlighted how the lack of basic service delivery in the province remains a great cause of concern while irregular expenditure is on the rise.
He added that they would like to see investigations reach completion, and those implicated get prosecuted. Dodovu further announced that the Committee will next week Monday head to the province to engage the provincial government and assess the progress made.
OFM News has previously reported that a total of 12 fraud and corruption cases relating to Covid-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) tenders are currently under investigation by the SIU.
These include investigations at the financially troubled JB Marks Local Municipality and the Ratlou Local Municipality, among others.
Opposition parties in the province have also called for speedy investigations, and highlighted that high profile politicians - including the former North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo - must be investigated.
