Vaal students unhappy with NSFAS─── 06:36 Tue, 09 Mar 2021
Unhappy students from the North West University (NWU), earlier barred entry to the Vaal campus, over the alleged exclusion of students, by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
The students from the Vanderbijlpark campus are demanding that all deserving students be funded by NSFAS.
This follows an announcement made by the scheme, that some students will not be funded due to the high volume of applications the office received for the 2021 academic year.
NWU director of Communications, Louis Jacobs, told OFM News that the allocation of funds remains the responsibility of NSFAS, not the university.
Jacobs further elaborated that returning students will automatically be funded.
He says prospective students are allowed for temporary registration, while the final decision to fund them will be made by NSFAS.
OFM News has been unable to contact NSFAS for comment as of yet.
