Deputy minister to monitor rollout of NW vaccine─── LUCKY NKUYANE 09:33 Tue, 09 Mar 2021
The Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Thembi Siweya, will on Tuesday monitor the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine rollout in the North West.
The provincial department spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, in a statement says as part of the frontline monitoring vaccine rollout, Siweya will visit the vaccination site at the Klerksdorp-Tshepong Tertiary Hospital in Klerksdorp. The deputy minister will be accompanied by the MEC for Health, Madoda Sambatha, and several provincial leaders while doing the round-ups at the COVID-19 vaccination sites.
The province previously reported that it will receive a second batch of 5,360 vaccine dosages from Johnson & Johnson in batches. Sambatha announced that a total of 34,152 people have already registered for vaccinations in the province.
“The visit to the Tshepong Tertiary Hospital will be preceded by an assessment of compliance with health protocols and Covid-19 regulations at J.S. Masisi Primary School. The frontline monitoring of the school is part of a government-wide Back-to-School Campaign that is aimed at highlighting the importance of education and to mobilise society to play a role supporting teaching and learning,” Lekgethwane adds.
Last month the provincial health department had received over 3000 vaccine dosages of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. It is expected that 30 000 frontline health workers, including nurses and doctors from both public and private sectors, will be vaccinated in the first phase of the provinces' rollout plan.
