Suspect apprehended in NC for possession of uncut diamonds─── 14:41 Fri, 12 Mar 2021

A 41-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court on Friday for the alleged possession of uncut diamonds in Kimberley, Northern Cape.
According to police spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, the arrest was made during a roadblock that was overseen by Kagisho Visible Policing members near Phuthanang in Galeshewe, on the road between Kimberley and Barkly West.
During the search, three uncut diamonds were found in the suspect’s handbag. The case was handed over to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, or Hawks, for further investigation.
In addition to this, Mnisi raises her concerns around criminal activities of this sort. She tells OFM News that in the last few months, many more arrests have been made in connection with uncut diamonds.
She says the investigation of such crimes are complex and labour-intensive, which make it difficult to facilitate.
