Intervention team inspect troubled NW hospitals | News Article

The state of the Mahikeng Provincial Hospital and Tshepong Hospital in the North West are expected to be in the spotlight on Tuesday.

The Ad Hoc Committee on the Section 100 intervention in the North West are expected to conduct oversight inspections.

The committee, led by Chairperson China Dodovu, who has also previously served as an MPL in the North West Legislature, as well as the MEC for Cooperative Governance, is on a week-long visit to the province where they are expected to engage the provincial government on the overall state of service delivery in the province.

The two hospitals have in the past made national headlines over poor infrastructure, inadequate resources and poor service delivery. Dodovu has previously raised concerns at the lack of financial controls and the lack of consequence management in the province, stating that this has left North West residents poorer.

During a committee briefing in the province on Monday, Dodovu further expressed shock at the lack of collaboration between the Section 100 intervention administrators, the Provincial Executive and the Provincial Legislature.

He, in a statement, highlights that there is a high need for the Inter-Ministerial Task Team (IMTT), the Provincial Executive and the leadership of the North West Provincial Legislature to “standardise protocols of engagement between the administrators and the Legislature to ensure effective oversight”.

He further raised concerns over alleged escalating cases of corruption stating that there should be consequence management in all spheres of government and that recommendations made by the Office of the Auditor-General, various forensic reports, and Public Service Commission, amongst others, must be implemented.
