The sitting comes against the backdrop of a string of allegations levelled against Mea, who has been placed at the centre of maladministration and the mismanagement of funds at the metro. The process will be conducted via a vote.

Last month, the DA’s chairperson in Mangaung, David Masoeu, said the DA had requested the Acting Executive Mayor, Lebohang Masoetsa, to institute a formal investigation into the conduct of Mea, for failing to carry out his duties with due diligence. This is not the first time that the MM will be facing a motion of no confidence. The last one did not succeed against him. The DA also wants Mea’s conduct to be put under scrutiny following allegations of the collapse of service delivery in the metro. The metro is yet to respond to OFM News' enquiry.

The sitting comes months after the former mayor Olly Mlamleli was ousted during a motion of no confidence in August 2020. She was voted out in her position with the help of ANC members who voted with the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus), EFF and DA. A total of 31 councillors voted for her removal while 28 opposed it, and 8 spoiled their votes.
