On the evening of Saturday 6 March, the girl’s mother had a quarrel with her boyfriend. The next day she went to report the domestic violence-related incident at the police station. Whilst there, the boyfriend left with her daughter.

It is alleged that the girl was last seen walking with her mother’s boyfriend in Section R - an area in Botshabelo.

According to police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, a missing person’s report was filed. He says the girl was wearing a blue skirt and was barefoot. She is light in complexion with long hair, adds Makhele.

As the police were conducting further investigations, they stumbled upon information that led to the assault of the suspected man by community members. This led to his death. No-one has been arrested for his murder yet, says Makhele. “The Provincial Police Commissioner of the Free State, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, warns residents against taking the law into their own hands as this jeopardises ongoing investigations, but rather allow justice to take its course by availing perpetrators to the police.”

The police are appealing to residents to notify them, should community members have any information pertaining to the whereabouts of the girl, says Makhele.
