The 29-year-old mother, alleged to have killed her newborn in North West by placing the baby in boiling water, has abandoned her bail application in the Brits Magistrate's Court on Friday 19 March.

North West Police spokesperson, Amanda Funani, says the accused - Wendy Tapiwa Kamwoto – will therefore remain behind bars and will reappear again on Friday 14 May. Funani says the accused, who resides in Rietfontein outside Hartbeespoortdam, allegedly gave birth to the baby on Friday 12 March 2021 before brutally killing the newborn.

“It is alleged that the suspect placed the newborn baby in boiling water, then wrapped the baby with plastic and buried him in a shallow grave in a nearby field.  The mother later confided in her friend about the incident, who alerted the police,” says Funani.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Sello Kwena, has also weighed in on the incident, urging members of the public who bear witness to crimes to work alongside the police to apprehend the accused. Kwena applauded Kamwoto’s friend for contacting the police and working alongside them to ensure that the 29-year-old woman did not get away with what she allegedly did.
