A 37-year-old man, who was arrested on charges of stock theft, is due to appear in the Vryburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday 23 March 2021.

According to police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, the suspect’s court appearance emanates from his apprehension by the Kuruman and Vryburg Stock Theft Unit at Kuruman in the Northern Cape on 20 March, after he was linked to a stock theft case.

“According to allegations, the farm manager left the farm after work on Friday, 12 March 2021, and everything was in order. It is alleged that when he returned on Monday morning, he noticed that there was something wrong with the kraal's gate. Further allegations state that when the manager went inside the kraal he noticed that 98 cattle worth the value of R750 000 were missing. He reported the matter to Vryburg Police Station,” says Ramatseba.

Police immediately attended to the matter and contacted SAPS in Kuruman. Ramatseba further adds that the two provinces' investigation led to the arrest of the suspect and he directed them to three farmers, to whom he sold the livestock.

Police then recovered 82 cattle which was handed back to the rightful owner.

Ramatseba further adds that according to allegations the suspect used a bakkie with a trailer to transport the livestock from Vryburg to Kuruman.

The Provincial Commissioner, Sello Kwena, reminded farmers to brandmark their livestock as this assist the police to identify the rightful owners.
