According to the spokesperson of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Phaladi Shuping, this follows their arrest on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, tells OFM News that the names of the suspects will be made available on Wednesday.

“The team then followed crime intelligence led information on suspects that are coming from Gauteng to Welkom who are in possession of firearms. It was said the alleged suspects are driving a white Hyundai Matrix with a GP registration number.

"The suspects were traced and intercepted at Chopin Street, in Riebeeckstad, Welkom. The vehicle, as well as four occupants in the vehicle were searched and two unlicensed firearms, a point(.) 38 special revolver and a 9mm pistol with serial numbers filed off, were found and confiscated,” adds Makhele.

Makhele says the suspects are from various areas in Gauteng.
