Police spokesperson, Christopher Singo, said in a release Tebello Mohai appeared before the Welkom Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded guilty.

Mohai was arrested on 10 March 2021 after the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit in Welkom received information about six suspects who were reported to be in possession of illegal firearms inside their vehicle.

Singo says the vehicle was searched and two illegal firearms and ammunition were found inside the vehicle. The other five suspects were released after it was discovered that the firearms belonged to Mohai.

The court sentenced Mohai to six years direct imprisonment for illegal possession of firearms and three years direct imprisonment for illegal possession of ammunition. Mohai will serve an effective nine years direct imprisonment.
