The police in the Northern Cape are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a collision between a train and a bakkie, that claimed three lives.
Police spokesperson, Mashay Gamieldien, says three occupants aged between 21 and 24 died on the scene on Sunday following a collision between the train and bakkie.
She says the cause of the collision at the Koopmansfontein and Silverstream level crossing is still under investigation.
Police spokesperson, Sergio Kock, told OFM News the deceased are Tersia van der Merwe (22), Sarah Jane Niewoudt (24) and Jesse Isemonger (21).
Meanwhile, a head-on collision on the N1 south of Trompsburg in the Free State has also claimed two lives when a truck collided with a light motor vehicle. Emergency Medical Service spokesperson, Sipho Towa, says jaws of life had to be used to extract the deceased with one person receiving medical treatment at the local hospital.
Earlier, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula called on all road users to be cautious ahead of Easter Holidays, as he launched the 2021 Easter Road Safety Campaign in North West.
