In an interview with OFM News, Free State police spokesperson Thandi Mbambo says the search for the missing 9-year-old is still underway and no new information has been made available. Mbambo further adds that it has been 26 days since her disappearance on 7 March 2021 in section R in Botshabelo, in the Free State. 

The mother of Ausi, Nomasomi Jonas, tells OFM News that she has not heard anything about the whereabouts of her child and has last spoken to the police a week ago.

Nomasomi further adds that she is hopeful that her child will be found. According to Mbambo, no new developments have been made.

OFM News previously reported on the night of her daughter's disappearance. Nomasomi and her boyfriend had a heated argument at a friend's place, during which he dragged her out of the house and started beating her in a nearby field.

According to Nomasomi, her boyfriend accused her of having an affair with the friend they were visiting on the night of Ausi’s disappearance. Jonas further adds after the suspect left, a passer-by helped her get to a nearby hospital. She received a call saying the suspect fled with her child when the search began. Upon involving community members to look for her daughter, they found the suspect trying to flee the large township. 

According to police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, community members allegedly assaulted and killed the suspect on 11 March 2021, after it was alleged that Ausi was last seen walking with him in Section R.
