Free State premier, Sisi Ntombela, has expressed shock following the arrest of a 21-year-old man accused of killing his 40-year-old mother in Bronville in Welkom.
Ntombela says it is sickening that the suspected had allegedly killed his own mother, said to be a former Eastern Cape SAPS administrative clerk. She says women in the country continue to be murdered with impunity by what she termed “cowardly criminals”.
Notmbela urged the South African Police Service (SAPS) to quickly complete their investigations and also implored the court to impose a harsh sentence.
The suspect is set to appear at the Welkom magistrate’s court on Tuesday, April 6 to face a charge of murder.
The suspect was nabbed by the police yesterday. The deceased was reported missing by her brother on Wednesday, March 31.
Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, said upon searching the deceased's home, officers followed a blood trail to what appeared to be a shallow grave.
