Goedemoed officer will remain suspended─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:08 Sat, 03 Apr 2021
The Goedemoed prison official who was recently acquitted of murder charges in the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein is set to remain suspended despite the court victory.
Mojalefa Letele was trialled in the High Court after his arrest in February 2020 following the murder of his female colleague, Nomsa Stuurman, in 2019.
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo, says the outcome of the criminal case has no bearing with the department's case as charges are not the same. Nxumalo adds that Letele remains dismissed until the outcome of the arbitration case.
Letele was linked to the murder of Stuurman by convicted murderer, Jongikhaya Samsam, who claimed that Letele had promised him R100 000 and a pair of sneakers to take out Stuurman.
Handing down his judgement, Judge Pitso Molitsoane said the testimony given by Samsam, who is convicted of brutally killing Stuurman and raping her colleague in 2019, falsely intended to incriminate Letele in the murder plot. He said despite allegations made by Samsam about the plot or contract to kill Stuurman, his story lacked details of Letele's participation in the murder plot. His legal counsel, Advocate Kenny Pretorius, told OFM News that plans to have Letele reinstated are afoot.
