Police in the North West has launched a manhunt for suspects involved in the shooting of a 58-year-old motorist in Mmakau outside Brits.

Police spokesperson, Sam Tselanyane, in a statement says it's alleged that the motorist, Sello Kgasi, was ambushed and shot execution-style by two gun-wielding suspects.

This after the deceased’s white Toyota Quantum minibus got a puncture after he drove over spikes that were spread across the road near Solar Panels camp on the R566 road between Mmakau and Brits.

Kgasi was in the company of two female passengers and was shot just when he was about to replace the tyre.

Tselanyane adds that the suspects robbed Kgasi of his personal pistol while the passengers were robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and their cellular phones.

“According to the reports, the suspects who are still at large were communicating in Shona. The Provincial Commissioner has since mobilised the 72-hour Activation Plan which includes the deployment of various units to trace and apprehend the suspects,” he adds.

The incident occurred on Friday, 2 April 2021 at about 00:55 whilst the deceased was driving from Rosslyn towards Brits.

“Anyone who may have information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects is requested to contact the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Aubrey Kgomo on 082 520 1598. Alternatively, Crime Stop can be contacted on 08600 10111. Anonymous tip-offs can also be communicated via MY SAPS Application,” Tselanyane adds.
