Another two mayors ousted in NW─── 05:36 Fri, 16 Apr 2021
Another two municipal mayors in the North West have been removed from their positions.
Greater Taung mayor, Kgosi Charles Motlhabane, was removed through a motion of no confidence on Tuesday by the Economic Freedom Fighters, while Tswaing's Lydia Malwane was removed a day later, in the same way.
In Tswaing, municipal speaker Phemelo Lobelo was also removed through a motion by the Democratic Alliance (DA). OFM News earlier reported that the DA and other ANC councillors in Tswaing were pushing for the removal of both the speaker and mayor.
Last Friday, the Madibeng Local Municipality mayor, Jostina Mothibe, was also removed.
Speaking to OFM News, ANC interim provincial committee coordinator Hlomani Chauke said they are aware of these developments and indicated that it's concerning.
Chauke said the IPC will release a statement with regard to these recent removals.
Meanwhile, the Taung Council has elected Oageng Seleke as the new mayor, while Tswaing elected Olaotse Makalela.
