NW ANC submits list of members charged in court─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:11 Fri, 16 Apr 2021
The embattled Potchefstroom based JB Marks Municipality's mayor, Kgotso Khumalo, and former MEC, Wendy Nelson, are expected to top the ANC's step-aside list in the North West.
This after the province on Thursday complied with the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) that the names of party members who are facing charges must be sent to the office of the ANC Secretary-General (SG) Ace Magashule.
The ANC’s Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) spokesperson, Kenny Morolong, tells OFM News that the party’s committee is set to meet on Friday to deliberate further on the ANC' step-aside list. He says the committee will receive a list with names of the party members affected by the resolution. He says the Coordinator of the IPC, Hlomani Chauke, did comply with the NEC's request on Thursday 15 April. Morolong confirms that all those facing corruption charges or are faced in court with other serious charges, including rape, amongst others, are on the list sent to the NEC.
“You will remember that all these comrades have been given 30 days within which they need to step aside and the 30-day period has not expired. We will explicitly express ourselves with respect to the next course of action for when the 30-day period has expired,” he adds.
Morolong has confirmed that the Matlosana ANC councillor, who was accused in court of raping a 15-year-old girl, is also on the list.
“We are in no position to provide the details of the names submitted to Luthuli House. When we are directed by the national office to submit reports we comply and should the NEC elect to make those names public on the basis of the reports which have been submitted, we expect the NEC to do so. We were expected to comply and we have indeed complied and should there be any instructions to make this information public the NEC will be better placed to do so,” Morolong adds.
The IPC has been embroiled in squabbles with party members from different regions in the province, including the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, that the committee is purging members thought to be former ANC chairperson and premier Mahumapelo allies.
OFM News understands that Mahumapelo, premier Job Mokgoro and Health MEC Madoda Sambatha, did not make the list because the trio is not facing any criminal charges in a court of law.
In his letter sent to ANC members earlier, Magashule - who has until 28 April to step aside or face suspension from the party - said the National Executive Committee (NEC) reaffirmed the resolutions of the 54th national elections on fighting crime and corruption and on credibility and integrity.
Earlier, ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the ANC's NEC had recommended that those facing criminal charges in a court of law must step aside or face suspension.
