FS to experience power reduction─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:07 Sat, 17 Apr 2021
Several parts of the Lejweleputswa District in the Free State will again be without power as Eskom implements load reductions in high-density areas to avoid network overloading.
The power utility says they will implement load reduction to this district this evening as well as on Sunday morning.
The utility’s Dolores Itumeleng in a statement says this is in efforts to avoid overloading its network and damage to its infrastructure.
The power utility issued notices to the Free State, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and North West.
The notices to the Free State comes just weeks after residents in the province, particularly those in the Matjhabeng and Maluti-A-Phofung regions, were urged to use electricity sparingly.
Deputy President David Mabusa during his visit earlier this month expressed concern at the escalating Eskom debt by Free State municipalities.
This, as Free State municipalities collectively owe the power utility over R13.5 billion, making it the province with the highest debt and one with two municipalities owning the bulk of the debt.
