Nine Winburg protesters released on bail | News Article

The nine protesting Winburg residents in the Free State who were arrested during the violent protests last week, have been released on bail of R500 each.

The nine protesters appeared in the Theunissen Magistrate's Court this morning to face charges including public violence. The police could not confirm the next court appearance and have since directed all enquires to the office of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). The NPA is yet to respond.

OFM News can confirm that more arrests have been made since Monday morning in the area.

The situation in Makeleketla, where the protests erupted last week Friday, seems to be calm with a heavy police presence. Police have been patrolling the area to maintain a sense of peace and calm in the area. The protests erupted after the venue of the Freedom Day celebrations, where President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver a keynote address, has now been relocated to Botshabelo outside Bloemfontein.
