NW housing department 'a cause for concern' | News Article

The North West Human Settlements Department will soon have to account for its underperformance and poor audit outcomes.

This, as is outlined by the Minister of Public Service as the only provincial department that underperformed. In a parliamentary reply to the DA, the Department of Public Service and Administration says the North West Department of Human Settlements is the only provincial department that received a disclaimer or adverse finding from the Auditor-General for the 2019/2020 financial year. In a written reply, Minister Senzo Mchunu further highlights that none of the national departments received a disclaimer or adverse finding for the 2019/2020 financial year and that no performance bonuses were paid by the North West Human Settlements nor any other departments that are regarded as underperforming.

OFM News has recently reported on how the North West Human Settlements Department has recently been heavily criticised for mushrooming informal settlements and housing backlogs in the province.

According to the latest Non-Financial Census of Municipalities released by Stats SA, this department, together with Water and Sanitation, as well as Local Municipalities in the North West, must urgently address the lack of sanitation recorded in the province, particularly in informal settlements.
