A total of five ANC members charged with alleged criminal activities in the North West are set to be affected by the ANC step aside resolution.

The Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) spokesperson, Kenny Morolong, confirms that members of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda (DRKK) and Ngaka Modiri Molema Districts have been affected by this.

Those expected to top the list in the Dr KK region include embattled Potchefstroom-based municipality mayor Kgotso Khumalo and former MEC Wendy Nelson, along with a Matlosana Councillor accused of rape.

The step-aside resolution, which was taken during the ANC’s 54th Nasrec conference, has been met with mixed reactions from within the party, with some seeing it as a tool to oust the party's Secretary-General (SG) Ace Magashule, among others.

Provinces were supposed to submit a list with the names of ANC members accused of corruption and other serious crimes.

The aim is that they step down from their positions or face suspension.
