NC fraud suspect caught in Bfn─── LUCKY NKUYANE 06:04 Thu, 22 Apr 2021
A suspect has been arrested for allegedly defrauding the Northern Cape Provincial Department of Health of almost half a million rand.
The Hawks provincial spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, says the 50-year-old Kwenzani Ndabeni was apprehended on Wednesday morning in Bloemfontein in the Free State.
She says Ndabeni, who already appeared in court later on Wednesday, was arrested for defrauding the Department of Health of approximately R487 500 in 2014.
Mnisi adds that it is alleged the provincial Department of Health awarded contracts for renovations of hospitals in the region but instead Ndabeni and his company allegedly presented invoices to the department claiming that they supplied and installed vinyl sheeting at Kuruman Hospital.
"The Department of Health suffered an actual loss of R487 500. Ndabeni, who was charged along with his entity, has been released on R5000 bail by the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court, and the case has been postponed to 21 May 2021," she adds.
In 2020 OFM News reported that a number of suspects allegedly involved in the R74 million fraud in the department were nabbed by the Hawks.
These suspects allegedly manipulated a R74 million building renovation tender at various Northern Cape towns between 2013 and 2014.
