NW warns against #GBV─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 07:19 Thu, 22 Apr 2021
The North West province has sent a stern warning against gender-based violence (GBV).
North West Provincial Police Commissioner, Sello Kwena, says they will not rest until GBV perpetrators are brought to book and sentenced. His statement follows the sentencing of a serial rapist who has been wanted for over a decade, to two life imprisonment sentences.
Jeremiah Paseka Tatai, aged 30, has officially been convicted for a series of rapes he committed between 2010 and 2018. Police spokesperson, Sam Tselanyane, says Tatai was arrested in 2018 for rape and linked to four other cases.
This week he appeared before the Klerksdorp Regional Court where he was found guilty on all five counts of rape and sentenced to two life imprisonment sentences.
Tselanyane said Tatai was also sentenced to an additional 20 years imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000).
