The Northern Cape Education Department confirms its provincial offices, including seven schools, have been closed due to Covid-19.
Spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe, confirms their offices have been closed following ten positive cases and will be re-opened next week Monday following decontamination. He says employees within the department will meanwhile work remotely from home whilst those in quarantine and self-isolation recovers. Van der Merwe further confirms they are keeping a close eye on schools in the Namakwa and John Taolo Gaetsewe districts following several positive cases. He says their district office developed a recovery plan to ensure that the last school days are recovered for the affected schools.
“The Northern Cape Department of Education, after careful consideration, decided to close the provincial office for today and tomorrow [Thursday and Friday] to allow for deep cleaning of all office space. This follows after ten positive cases were reported and all directed traces were immediately isolated,” he highlighted.
He says the provincial office will operate with a 50% capacity of staff for at least a month and staff will be allowed to work from home on a rotational basis until further notice.
