The duo appeared in the same court on April 21 for conspiracy to commit house robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm, among other charges.

In a statement, North West police spokesperson Sam Tselanyane says their arrest followed after police reacted swiftly on a tip-off about a planned house robbery.

In an interview with OFM News, Tselanyane says there were initially three suspects, but the third is still at large.

Tselanyane further disclosed that after police reacted on the tip-off, they followed the suspects. When the police came closer, they noticed the three suspects leaving their vehicle and entering the premises of the targeted house.

Immediately thereafter one of the suspects noticed that the police were following them, and aimed his firearm at the officers.

One officer then shot the suspect, wounding him.

“That is when he left the firearm behind and ran away. The other two suspects were cornered and arrested,” he says. 

Meanwhile, the firearm and their vehicle were confiscated for further investigation, Tselanyane adds. Police are still searching for the third suspect.

The investigation continues.
