It further hopes to start with Phase 2 of the vaccination programme by mid-May.

Health spokesperson Mondli Mvambi says the next phase is going to focus on vulnerable residents – those 60 years and older. He says the department plans to do this by May 17.

Meanwhile, the department has asked for help from community organisations across the province to help with the registration of the elderly through the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) - by logging on to the official website.

Vaccination will take place at 97 facilities in different regions.

A total of 26 vaccination facilities were established in the Thabo Mofutsayana- and Lejweleputswa districts.

Residents in Mangaung can register and visit 21 facilities while 17 were established in Fezile Dabi, and seven in the Xhariep-region.

Mvambi says once a person is registered, they will be notified by SMS about where and when they should be vaccinated.
