Traffic official to appear in court─── 11:09 Wed, 28 Apr 2021

A 50-year-old female traffic official, who was arrested on Monday 26 April 2021, is expected to appear before a Bloemfontein Magistrate on Wednesday 28 April 2021 for allegedly taking a bribe the week before.
The traffic official allegedly asked the motorist, who is a foreign national, to produce the passport and a gratification of R1400 for the vehicle to be released, after she impounded the vehicle on Thursday 21 April 2021 at Bloemfontein. The victim left the scene and asked his supervisors to assist him. Police were immediately alerted by the victim’s supervisors about the incident.
It is alleged that the gratification amount was received by another traffic official, Letebele Rampai (44), instead of the 50-year-old female traffic official. Rampai, who was also arrested, appeared in court on Monday 26 April 2021. He was released on R2000 bail. The Hawks acted swiftly on the matter and several drivers’ licenses were found inside the vehicle of the 50-year-old official, which led to her arrest.
