Family of UFS student shocked by her death─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:42 Mon, 10 May 2021
The family of a deceased University of the Free State (UFS) student, who was killed in a hit-and-run incident, says it wants the killer of the student to be found, and for justice to be served.
The family representative, Siyanda Mpambani, tells OFM News that the family is deeply saddened and heartbroken by the tragic and untimely death of Litemba Mpambani, who was a fourth-year Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) student. She says the news about the death of the 23-year-old student, who’s originally from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, came as a huge blow to the family as Litemba was a huge source of inspiration to her peers in the community.
The Free State police earlier announced that they were investigating the involvement of a black sedan in the hit-and-run incident which killed Litemba near the main entrance of the Bloemfontein campus on Saturday 24 April 2021.
Litemba was declared dead on the scene by paramedics and the police announced that they were investigating a case of culpable homicide.
Siyanda says Litemba’s life was “on the cusp of greatness and her career had already started shaping in the many projects she was a part of and residencies she had been selected for. She drew her inspiration from her direct community, including a key focus on the queer experience, female experience and the importance of black bodies”.
The family has urged anyone with relevant information to approach and assist the police in their investigations.
“Her death is under investigation and we hope to find the culprit. They need to account for their actions. We are angered, confused, and terribly lost without her. Her mother's loss cannot be expressed and is inconsolable. We have lost our fighter, our flame, our soft-spoken revolutionary,” Siyanda further adds.
