#BrendinHorner: Suspected killers due back in court─── 08:35 Thu, 13 May 2021
All eyes will be on the state during the continuation of the Brendin Horner murder case in Senekal near Paul Roux in the Free State on Thursday, after a lengthy postponement due to the unavailability of the DNA results.
The case against Sekwetje Mahlamba and his co-accused, Sekola Matlaletsa, who are facing charges of murder and robbery, has been hampered by the delay in the outcome of the DNA results.
The defense team of the two accused, Advocate Machini Motloung and Joseph Kgwelenya, wants the case against the two men, who are still in custody, to be thrown out of court due to the unavailability of these results following a backlog in the processing of the samples at the national forensic laboratory. They argue that the state is violating the rights of the two accused by denying them a fair and speedy trial in terms of section 35(3)(b) of the Constitution.
Meanwhile, in April 2021, the SAPS issued a statement in which they expressed satisfaction with the continuation of the DNA testing due to the availability of Quantification Kits. The two suspects were arrested by the Senekal detectives at Fateng Tse-Ntsho in Paul Roux after Horner's body was discovered at an open space on the farm with injuries to his head and face, tied to the pole with a rope around his neck.
