Former Free State Agriculture MEC Mosebenzi Zwane has once again came under fire at the State Capture Commission of Inquiry.

This, as he faced tough questions about his trips to India with the Gupta family. The Commission, led by Deputy Chief Justice, Raymond Zondo, on Thursday morning heard how Zwane has travelled in a private jet with the Gupta family and how his trip to India coincided with that of a choir called the Umsingizana Choir.

Whilst he has denied allegations of the choir belonging to him, he confirmed before the Commission that the choir travelled the length and breadth of South Africa, including internationally. The choir is said to have performed at several prominent events, including those of the ruling party. The former MEC, under scrutiny over his involvement with the Gupta family and in the controversial Estina project, further confirmed that he has travelled abroad at the expense of the Guptas. He has, however, denied knowing that some of the trips would be shared with the choir.

Zwane confirmed before the commission that he knew the Gupta’s from 2010, but was not sure of their involvement with the said choir. He told Zondo that the organiser of the choir was Mr Mfanafuthi Thomo, who was also responsible for the event attended by the choir, including their travel arrangements.

Zwane is expected to shed more light on his trips to India, and his involvement with the Gupta family and associates.

This is a developing story.
