NW premier worried about #Covid19 surge─── 07:19 Fri, 14 May 2021
North West Premier Job Mokgoro says he is concerned at the daily increase in Covid-19 infections in the province.
Mokgoro briefed the media on Thursday about the province’s plans ahead of the start of the mass vaccination campaign on Monday.
The latest statistics show that all provinces are experiencing an increase in Covid-19 infections, with the Northern Cape showing a 68% increase in the last 7 days, followed by Gauteng at 63%, Limpopo at 47%, North West at 42%, and Western Cape at 39%.
"There is an increase in daily positive cases observed in the past few weeks in the province and the weekly numbers increase between thirteen to fifteen," said Mokgoro.
"Overall, active cases continue to decrease, leading to recovery rate."
Mokgoro said the province is in the final phase of its preparations of phase two of the vaccination campaign.
"The number of North West healthcare workers vaccinated under the Sisonke protocol is twenty-two thousand two hundred and eighty-nine as of Tuesday 11 May.
"The first vaccinations with Pfizer will start next week Monday and will focus on healthcare workers who have registered but have not been vaccinated yet, those residing in old age homes.
"All healthcare workers who haven't yet vaccinated, have to get vaccinated this and next week."
