#MangaungShutdown: Second day of protests expected─── 09:27 Tue, 18 May 2021
Activists in the ongoing #MangaungShutdown protests are set to convene at various points ahead of Tuesday's expected protest action.
Information regarding possible meeting points, such as Batho Hall, Lengau Training Centre, Dr Belcher Road, Dewetsdorp Road, the Lemo Mall traffic lights, and the M6 and N8, are being distributed on social media.
No groups have announced any detailed plans ahead of Tuesday, however, possible protest action cannot be ruled out. Furthermore, roads remain barricaded with limited entry or exit into townships, amongst others.
OFM News reports that protest action took a turn for the worst as protesters witnessed the shooting of the young Liam Siegal, aged 14, in Heidedal near a shopping centre.
Siegal’s mother was disabled with turmoil upon being informed that her youngest son had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, leading to his death.
Moreover, the events of Monday reminded them of June 16, many of the protesters ascertained.
OFM News reported protesters were angry after policemen opened fire - shooting rubber bullets and tear gas - injuring many community members. In interviews conducted with protesters, many asserted that they will not stop unless their demands have been met.
