Security guard due in court after boy's death─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:41 Wed, 19 May 2021
The 57-year-old security guard, who allegedly killed a 14-year-old school pupil, Jevano Liam Siegal, during the Mangaung Shutdown protests, is due to appear at the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
He is expected to appear for the first time since his arrest on Monday to face charges of murder. The latter allegedly shot at a group of protesting residents in an attempt to scare them but he unfortunately, allegedly shot and killed Siegal. The scholar who goes to the Heide Primary School in Heidedal is said to have passed away at the scene of the crime after being shot. Meanwhile, about 19 people who were arrested for public violence and the looting of foreign nationals shops, will also appear in court this morning.
On Tuesday, police spokesperson Motantsi Makhele said in a statement the "57-year-old security guard who was arrested following the shooting of a teenage boy during violent shutdown protests, is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Wednesday 19 May 2021. This after allegations that a group of protesters went to attack a warehouse in Dr Belcher Road, Bloemfontein."
Makhele furthermore revealed that by Tuesday, no less than 13 shops were reported to have been looted.
