#MangaungShutdown: Protest leaders to deliberate 6-page report─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:34 Thu, 20 May 2021
Indications have emerged that the Mangaung Shutdown protests might continue if residents decide that their issues have not been completely addressed by the MEC of Cooperative Governance (Cogta) and premier Sisi Ntombela.
According to one of the organisers of the protest, Danny Smith, their committee will on Thursday sit in a caucus and deliberate a 6-page report compiled from the meeting between, Ntombela, MEC Thembeni Ngxangisa, and leaders of the protest. He says this report will then be sent to at least seven towns including Van Stadensrus, Dewetsdorp, Botshabelo, Thaba 'Nchu, and Winburg in the Masilonyana Municipality, to further peruse and decide whether their grievances have been adhered to. Smith says the decision on the protest will only be made on Saturday after the residents have finished perusing the report.
On Wednesday night, leaders of the protest met with premier Ntombela and Nxangisa about their demands. Leaders are demanding the provincial government to address the lack of service delivery, access to business opportunities, sound management of municipal affairs, access to land, and dealing with corrupt and aloof government officials.
Ngxangisa has threatened to take court action against the Mangaung Metro Municipal (MMM) Council as the council sits on Thursday to discuss its Municipal Manager Tankiso Mea's suspension.
Ngxangisa says if the council fails to take a resolution to suspend the under-fire Mea, he will be forced to take court action against the council. This follows a string of misconduct and maladministration allegations against Mea, who has been further accused of failing to carry out his duties with due diligence.
