Vaal children's learning centres incomplete─── 17:36 Thu, 20 May 2021
Four multimillion rand Early Childhood Developments (ECD) centres remain incomplete since 2014 in the Vaal Triangle, Gauteng.
One of these centres in Sharpeville near Vereeniging is already dilapidated, with taps, geysers and electrical cables having been stolen, despite the fact that the centre has security guards.
During a sitting of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature recently, the Democratic Alliance mentioned that progress at all four centres has been halted due to an Auditor-General report finding that a contractor was irregularly appointed.
According to Gauteng MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Lebogang Maile, two of the projects are complete, with only land re-zoning and occupation certificates outstanding.
