First group of #MangaungShutdown protesters out on bail─── 12:14 Fri, 21 May 2021
The first group of the more than 70 Mangaung protesters who were arrested in total for public violence in Bloemfontein this week have been let out on bail.
This is according to Tshepo Kalaote, a lawyer who was representing 15 of the 41 suspects who appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 20 May 2021. Kalaote says these disgruntled residents who were part of the Mangaung Shutdown protests were let out on bail of between R300 and R1000. Meanwhile, 32 more protesters are currently appearing in the same courthouse on Friday.
Free State police spokesperson Motantsi Makhele had earlier revealed to OFM News that the looting of foreign nationals' small businesses had increased significantly during the Mangaung Shutdown protests. He also stated that some of the shops were badly vandalised in Bloemfontein townships.
This is a developing story.
