Police spokesperson, Amanda Funani, says the suspect will face rape and murder charges after he was arrested earlier this week following the discovery of the 4-year-old Tshimologo Lotshabeng’s naked body and clothes in bushes at Kgomotso Village near Taung.

Funani says it is alleged the suspect is a colleague and one of the people who accompanied Tshimologo’s mother from a local tavern to her friend’s house - where she was sleeping.

The suspect allegedly waited for the mother to fall asleep, then kidnapped her daughter and took her to the nearby bushes. She says investigations into the matter including the possibility of charging the mother with child neglect is underway.

Meanwhile the Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Dintletse Molefe, applauded the police for the prompt arrest following the gruesome incident and warned no acts of criminality and violence against women and children will be tolerated.
