The JB Marks Local Municipality in the North West has closed down three of its offices, including that of the municipal speaker, following a confirmed case of Covid-19 this week.

JB Marks spokesperson, Willy Maphosa, says the three offices, namely the Dan Tloome, FNB Buildings, as well as the Speaker’s Office, have been closed and are therefore inaccessible to the public over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday (25th and 26 May). This is to allow the spaces to be deep cleaned and fumigated. This will mean certain services cannot be accessed by the public during this time.

According to Maphosa, services for revenue and housing can still be accessed at Ikageng and Promosa’s offices. The three affected buildings will reopen on Thursday 27 May.

The North West has the fourth-highest active Covid-19 case number, standing at 4 978.

The province and its Central South African counterparts – the Northern Cape and the Free State - have raised concerns over increasing cases during the third wave. The Northern Cape is the worst affected of the three, with 7940 cases as of Monday evening.
