NW Treasury warns of ‘tender fraud’ scam─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:24 Tue, 25 May 2021
The North West Provincial Treasury has cautioned municipalities and residents in the province against a tender fraud scam.
The provincial department spokesperson, Kesalopa Gill, says an alleged fraudulent letter bearing the signature of the head of the department (HOD) has surfaced. She says the letter has been circulated to companies and some claim that they have received calls from the department’s officials. Gill says the department rejects such a tender and has further called on all those who are affected to report the matter to law enforcement agencies.
Gill says according to the HOD, Mr Ndlela Kunene, this letter was brought to their attention. Individuals have illegally issued a false adjudication letter claiming to be from the department, signed by Kunene.
“The fraudulent letter is circulated to companies informing them that they have been awarded a “Tender No NWDF: 01/2020(1): Appointment of Panel of Service Providers for the provision of technical assistance to municipalities to carry out municipal financial recovery services (MFRS) function for a period of 3 years”, the department says.
The department adds that it has not issued such an adjudication letter, cautioning that the stamp used is also fraudulent, with no direct or official contact details.
