NW Premier, MECs to outline plans─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 06:37 Tue, 01 Jun 2021
North West Premier, Job Mokgoro, and Finance MEC, Motlalepula Rosho, are amongst cabinet members expected to deliver budget speeches on Tuesday.
The two, including the MEC for Cooperative Governance, are expected to table their departments' budget for the 2021/22 financial year before the North West Legislature.
Issues concerning the lack of economic growth, high unemployment rates, corruption, the spread of the coronavirus, ailing municipalities, and poor service delivery, are amongst issues expected to be addressed.
According to the Quarterly Labour Force Survey released by Statistics South Africa, the economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic continue to be far-reaching with the unemployment figures standing at 32.5% countrywide. The North West is amongst the provinces with the highest expanded unemployment rate at 46.3%.
The province is also amongst those grappling with basic municipal services despite most of the municipalities being under administration.
Mokgoro and Rosho are expected to deliver plans on how they plan to address these issues and many others.
