NW man sentenced to life for murder of elderly woman─── 10:57 Tue, 01 Jun 2021
The North West High Court has sentenced Levy Selebogo (39) to life behind bars for the murder of a 75-year-old woman.
Keitumetse Nkgothoe (75) was found in her home at the Gopane village with an injury to her head in 2018.
“She was then rushed to a nearby clinic where she was certified dead. Post-mortem reports revealed that she died from head injuries and broken ribs,” says North West National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Henry Mamothame.
He says the suspect was arrested following an investigation after the community wrongfully killed another person for the murder.
“Members of the community took the law into their own hands and allegedly killed Lloyd Nkgothoe (25) after wrongfully being accused of murdering the old woman. A thorough investigation and collaboration between the police and Advocate Baitse Chulu resulted in the arrest of Selebogo, whose fingerprints were discovered at the sliding-door where he gained entry,” adds Mamothame.
At the time of committing the murder, Selebogo was on parole after being sentenced to 18 years in prison in 2004 for house robbery.
“Selebogo was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for housebreaking and intent to rob and murder, 20 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, and life imprisonment for murder."
