The accused has been in custody since his arrest on 2 February 2021 and appeared in court on Wednesday 2 June 2021 for sentencing.

On 1 February 2021, the accused visited the victim’s home and offered her money to accompany him to the local tavern in Vosburg. The seven-year-old trusted her half-brother and accompanied him. The accused, however, took her to an abandoned building instead and raped her.

The incident was reported to the police after the child informed her sister about the incident right after she was brought home by the perpetrator. The accused was arrested the following day and remained in custody until his sentencing. He was declared unfit to hold a firearm and his name has been recorded on the national sex offenders register.
