NCRF Chairperson dies─── 11:25 Sun, 06 Jun 2021
The South African radio and media industry is deeply saddened following the passing of one of the industry’s heavyweights, Garth Damerell-Moss.
Damerell-Moss served as the Chairperson of the National Radio Forum (NCRF) Northern Cape and a member of the NCRF Central Executive Committee.
In a statement, General Secretary of the NCRF, Thabang Pusoyabone, says Damerell-Moss’s legacy is a community radio sector that has been immensely enriched by his ideas, courage, contributions and his steadfast belief in the value of community media.
Damerell-Moss passed away on Saturday morning, June 5.
He was a very strong activist, Pusoyabone says.
“He fought for the sustainability of community media and the recognition thereof, and the support for community media. Garth was that strong activist who wanted community radio to be allowed space and to be supported to do its work in supporting democracy in the country,” he says.
Pusoyabone tells OFM News that they currently do not know the cause of death.
“He complained about his breathing, and went for a Covid test - so we’re waiting for the results,” he says.
