The spokesperson of the Free State Health Department, Mondli Mvambi, says 414 people were vaccinated on Saturday and 587 people were vaccinated on Sunday. He says the MEC of Health, Montseng Tsiu, says the department appreciates the commitment of the healthcare workers who availed their time over the weekend to ensure that they contribute to the herd immunity in the Free State, which is reached once 67% of the population are vaccinated.

“As the Department of Health, we are targeting about 288 000 persons who are above the age of 60. We appreciate every effort of those who take their time to avail themselves to be vaccinated because this is one of the instruments meant to fight the scourge of Covid-19 in the province,” Mvambi tells OFM News.

OFM News previously reported that persons 60 years of age and older were invited to get vaccinated in Bloemfontein as part of the Phase 2 vaccination process this past weekend. “The only focus that we are having now is to ensure that we rally as many elderly people as possible to get vaccinated,” Mvambi said.
