This, as Health Minister Zweli Mkhize is expected to visit the province on Tuesday.

Mkhize is expected to engage the Provincial Health Department on measures taken to address the escalating number of positive cases in the province and assess the province’s second phase of the Covid-19 rollout programme for the elderly.

He is expected to visit various vaccination centres, and also engage with community members. The province currently has 52 968 cumulative cases, 1 166 deaths, and 42 630 recoveries. It is listed amongst the provinces with the highest active cases following Gauteng and the Free State.

President Cyril Ramaphosa, a week ago during his address to the nation, announced that the province is also amongst those already experiencing the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
